About Stones In The Road
Boohzoo (Hello) my name is Shawn Middelton. I have been doing community work in one form or another since I was a young man. When I was young and traveling to different communities with one of my elders they stated, you’re going to see a lot, every lesson, every teaching has some value… but it might not be for you. So we will place these teachings in front of you like stones in the road. It’s up to you to pick them up examine them and decide if you want to carry them with you for a time”. This is one of the kindest things my elders did for me. Lately as an adult I have found more barriers to healing for people than doorways. Some of my fondest memories are of large healing conferences, impromptu meetings at coffee tables, spontaneous gatherings as well as down time when I was able to hear from elders of many different Nations while cooking or eating a meal. Today we seem to live in a world that lacks some of the funding opportunities for community conferences or concentrates on a largely dominant society Best Practice Standardized focus that creates a culture of exclusion. I hear from many people seeking help or to help others who find only barriers or political conditions in healing, recovery and a better standard of life for themselves and their communities. I do appreciate much of the direction social sciences continue to move in, but it is largely based on a dominant society modeled on privilege that leaves many people behind. This is why I created this site, to provide links, audio experiences and conversation for those wishing for more than their current resources can provide. I hope to see it evolve into a virtual healing conference where discussions, teachings, and voices can be found that benefit individuals and communities. I hope to help lay out lessons I found or find like stones in the road that anyone can pick up and put in their tool bucket or simply leave on the side of the road as they seek other lessons that work for them.
